Anny: Welcome to today's bilingual radio. Today we are going to talk about some fruit-related idioms.欢迎收听今天的双语广播,今天啊我们要讲一些与水果有关的成语.Hansel: That's right. Today we are going to discuss about this topic ,in particular apple. And I think everyone knows about apple. Apple, they come in so many different varieties. 没错,今天呢我们就来讨论这个话题,尤其是苹果。我想每个人都知道苹果。苹果不仅品种繁多,而且非常香甜可口哦。

Anny: yeah, Apple has a very important cultural attribute in British and American culture, so many idiom phrases are related to apple.苹果在英美文化中有非常重要的文化属性,所以有很多的成语短语都是跟苹果有关的Hansel: That's right, so we're going to take a look at a few here. So, starting off, like “as American as apple pie”, basically saying that apple pie is the epitome of being American, and so if you’re as American as apple pie, then you’re just very American.是的,那现在我们在这里向大家分享一些关于苹果的短语。让我们现在开始吧,比如“像苹果派一样的美国人”,基本上说苹果派是美国人的缩影,所以说如果你像苹果派一样的美国人,那么你就非常的美国人了。

Anny: Apple pie is a very American food. It's like a national label.
苹果馅饼是非常具有美国特色的一种食品,这就像是一个国家的标签。
Hansel: Yeah, such as American football, jeans, hamburgers, things like that.
没错,比如美式足球,牛仔裤,汉堡包之类的。

Anny: Yeah,And the second one, “ comparing apples and oranges ”. This sentence can be used when pointing out other people's logical mistakes. It means comparing completely different things together without logic.
然后第二个呢就是“ comparing apples and oranges ”。这句话可以在指出别人逻辑上的错误时使用,意思就是把完全不一样的东西放在一起比较,没有逻辑性。

Hansel: Right. and the third one is very funny:“apple of someone’s eye”, means a favorite or a well-like person. So for example, my lover is the apple of my eye.
是的,第三个非常有趣:“apple of someone’s eye”,意思是最爱的人,掌上明珠的意思。例如,我的爱人是我的掌上明珠
Anny: So, did someone say that to you?
Hansel:not yet,maybe soon

Anny: Okay, just curiosity. Let's look at the next one :“the apple never falls far from the tree”. It's a little like the Chinese saying that "有其父必有其子" This phrase has both commendatory and derogatory meanings, but it seems that derogatory meanings are mostly used here.让我们来看下一个:“the apple never falls far from the tree”
这有点像中文里的“有其父必有其子”,“the apple never falls far from the tree”也是这个意思,这个短语有褒义也有贬义,但这里好像贬义的应用居多哦

Hansel: Now let's look at the last one:“bad apple” or a “rotten apple”. it means a bad person. Or you can also say that “one bad (or rotten) apple can spoil the whole barrel, implies that one flawed person can basically undermine an effort or a group.
